Wiretide ("us", "we", or "our") makes the Wiretide app for macOS and runs the wiretide.app website (the "Service"). This page explains what data we collect when you use the Service, what we do with it, and what we never collect.
Wiretide is built so that your traffic stays on your Mac. What it captures on your machine stays on your machine.
1. Data Collection & Usage
1.1 The Wiretide app for macOS
Data we DO NOT collect
- The HTTP, HTTPS, WebSocket and MQTT traffic you capture, including URLs, headers, bodies, topics and payloads.
- Saved sessions, exported files, rules (breakpoints, Map Local, Rewrite) and scripts.
- The root certificate Wiretide creates to inspect HTTPS. It is generated on your Mac and its private key never leaves it.
- Usage analytics, crash reports or advertising identifiers. The app contains no analytics or crash-reporting SDK.
All of this is stored only on your Mac. We cannot see it and nothing in the app uploads it.
Data we collect
- Update checks. About once a day, the app downloads a list of available versions from wiretide.app. The request carries your IP address and the app and macOS version, as any web request does. We use it only to offer updates.
- License activation (Pro). When you activate Pro, the app sends your license key and your Mac's name to Lemon Squeezy, which issues and manages licenses for us. The Mac's name lets you recognize and deactivate that Mac from your Lemon Squeezy account.
- License checks (Pro). Every few days the app re-checks your license key with Lemon Squeezy. If it can't, Pro keeps working offline for up to 30 days.
The free version sends nothing except update checks.
1.2 The wiretide.app website
Data we DO NOT collect
- The website sets no cookies and runs no analytics or tracking scripts.
Data we collect
- Mailing list. If you sign up to hear about releases, we store your email address with our newsletter provider and use it only to email you about Wiretide. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
- Support email. If you email us, we keep the conversation so we can help you. We don't use it for marketing or share it.
1.3 Purchases
When you buy Wiretide Pro, Lemon Squeezy acts as our reseller and merchant of record. It collects your name, email, billing address and payment details to process the order, issue receipts and handle sales tax. We receive your name, email, country and order details so we can deliver your license and provide support. We never see or store your full card details.
2. Service Providers
We use a small number of third-party services to run Wiretide. Each one has its own privacy policy.
2.1 Payments & Licensing

2.2 Hosting, Content Delivery & Security
Cloudflare hosts wiretide.app and the update feed, and protects them from abuse. It processes request data such as IP addresses. Cloudflare Privacy Policy
2.3 Downloads
GitHub hosts the app downloads and release notes, and receives your IP address when you download Wiretide. GitHub Privacy Statement
2.4 Email
Our newsletter provider stores mailing list addresses, and our email provider handles messages sent to our support address.
3. Data Retention & Your Rights
We keep order and license records for as long as your license exists and as long as tax and accounting rules require. Mailing list addresses are deleted when you unsubscribe. You can ask us at any time to show, correct or delete the personal data we hold about you by emailing [email protected].
4. Links To Other Sites
The Service links to sites we don't operate, such as GitHub and Lemon Squeezy. We aren't responsible for their content or privacy practices, so please review their policies.
5. Changes To This Privacy Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we change the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Significant changes will also be mentioned in the release notes.
